As 2023 comes to a close, I wanted to share a look back at The Inspired Room readers’ favorite decor pieces from the year. After finishing renovations, I’ve enjoyed doing some decorating in my own home and I’m excited to focus on more styling (and less construction) in 2024.
For the past 17 years I’ve loved helping readers create welcoming, stylish homes with affordable, timeless decor. I often recommend items I use myself, and I always enjoy hearing from readers who bought and loved a suggestion. Below are the top picks from you—and many are favorites of mine too.
Here are YOUR favorites for 2023 (and mine, too!)

Jute and cotton rug – I added this rug in 2023 and love it. It’s soft, low-shedding, and available in several colors. We also use a rug pad with it to add cushion and prevent slipping.
Plaid chair – I have versions in plaid and stripe throughout the house. They work well in small spaces and are cozy to sit in by the fire.
Patterned rug (ocean/gold) – This rug sits in our dining room and brings color and pattern to the space.
Patterned cork-backed placemats – These are sturdy, well-made, and durable. I keep them in a basket on the island for easy access; the patterns and colors are such a cheerful touch.
Reversible throw blanket – Lightweight, machine washable, and incredibly soft. They come in several patterns and colors and are a reader favorite for sofas, chairs, and beds.
Rattan serving cart – A functional and stylish addition to our kitchen that also helps with serving and storage.
Wood folding tray table (set of 2) – Handy for small spaces, extra meals, or casual serving; they fold away when not in use.
Meadow art print – A lovely, whimsical print that adds charm and softness to a room.
Jute-wrapped chandelier with shades – This chandelier hangs in our dining room and works with many shade options for different looks.
Buffalo check curtains – I have these in chambray in my bedroom; they add pattern and a cozy, classic feel.
Toaster oven with air fryer – A compact, versatile appliance that serves as the main oven in our Tiny Cottage and is great as holiday backup.
Faux tulips – These look remarkably realistic and brighten up seasonal displays year after year.
Hobnail goblets – Beautiful, sturdy glassware in a lovely green hue that feels special for everyday use or entertaining.
Brass pharmacy floor lamp – A favorite in the bedroom for added light and classic styling.
Brass wall sconces with linen shade (set of 2) – I’ve used these in different finishes; they’re great for adding light without hardwiring and can be customized with rechargeable bulbs or wired later.
Window candles – These battery-operated window candles are a winter favorite for cozy evenings and have features that make them stand out.
Hanging lit stars – A porch tradition we bring out each year; they add warm, festive light to the entryway.
Leather armchair – I’ve had the loveseat version for years and it only improves with age; a great durable choice for everyday living.
Simply Home book – Thank you for your support of my latest book this year, which combines ideas from Simple Organizing and Simple Decorating into a new hardcover.
Rattan accent cabinet – Versatile for entryways, offices, bedrooms, or entertaining; these small cabinets provide useful storage while adding texture and style.
Honorable mentions:
Garden hose – We bought this 50-foot hose last summer and it’s been the best we’ve used; it’s also available in 100-foot.
Bamboo window shades – We recently installed new bamboo shades in our home and have received many messages from readers who installed them too. They add natural texture and warm light control.
