Live Like You’re in the South of France: A Proven Lifestyle Guide

This post is sponsored by One Kings Lane, but the daydreams are my own.

AI admit it: I’m a home dreamer. As a child I imagined living in a castle, and though I’ve grown up enough to know I probably won’t own a chateau in the south of France, I still love to create that feeling at home. I want to feel like the little girl who lives in her dream house, even if in reality I live in a new house on a small lot in Washington. Don’t burst my bubble.

Do you ever picture a version of your home that’s more magical than reality? A mental edit that adds charming architecture, lush gardens, or antique furniture to your ordinary suburban house so it feels more enchanting? Small choices and the right pieces can make an everyday space feel like a dream.

After a recent trip to Victoria and a visit to the beautiful Empress Hotel, I’m in the mood for a summer house on the French coast—perhaps like the one in the photo above. I picture it overlooking the sea, with room for guests and plenty of light. Sound over the top? Maybe. But imagining it is half the fun. You’d visit, right? I’d throw a party and give you your own guest wing.

Until that dream becomes reality, I can bring elements of that style into my current home with a few thoughtfully chosen pieces. I found some items I adore from a Martha Stewart sale at One Kings Lane that would work well in a South of France–inspired room. I’m sharing them in case you want to add a touch of that aesthetic to your own space.

1. Chester Dining Table  2. Georgia Chaise  3. Cuisine Hanging Light  4. Cheese Chalk Board  5. Rectangular Tray

All of these pieces and more are available at One Kings Lane. A small tip: these sales can be flash events with limited quantities, so if something catches your eye it’s best to act quickly. Even if a particular item sells out, there are always new finds to discover.

Have fun window shopping and creating a little South of France in your own corner of the world. Signing up and browsing is free—go ahead and dream a little.

PS. My kitchen counters are being installed today. I’ll share sneak peeks on Instagram (theinspiredroom) and post full updates here soon. Progress slowed for a bit, but things are moving again—hooray! I don’t like lulls.
