Sunday Strolls + Scrolls is a series inspired by the interiors and exteriors I’ve fallen for while browsing online. I especially love spaces and ideas that feel like a sanctuary. I hope this series reads as relaxing and enjoyable as a leisurely walk down a charming street, a peaceful garden stroll, or peeking inside a lovely neighborhood home during a Sunday open house.

I have a soft spot for small rooms used thoughtfully. Today’s inspiration highlights charming, compact mudrooms and pantry spaces. If you have a small closet, niche, or unused corner, it can often be transformed into a practical and beautiful area. Who couldn’t use a little extra pantry space, a tidy mudroom, or a smart extension of the kitchen?
Some homes dedicate large rooms to these functions, but I especially appreciate when a smaller footprint is made to work beautifully. Even a tiny niche can be both useful and pretty with the right storage, hooks, and styling.
In our home, the small mudroom will be affected by our upcoming renovation. At the moment it contains a door to the backyard, a small pantry closet, a garage door, and a powder room — five doorways in one compact area. When my parents’ bedroom addition is built, the backyard door will be closed off. We’ll add French doors in the kitchen for backyard access, but the mudroom will lose much of its natural light. Replacing a door with a wall isn’t ideal, yet it creates new possibilities for how we might use that space, and I already have ideas for bringing in more light.
I’ll share a dedicated post soon to show the mudroom plans and the options we’re considering. For now I’m gathering inspiration and imagining how the space can evolve once that doorway is removed. Stay tuned for updates and design choices.
For now, enjoy the character and clever storage solutions in these small spaces — they’re full of ideas worth adapting to your own home.
