Christmas Display Shelf Ideas for a Cozy Kitchen Decor

Some of you may have noticed the small stand on my counter recently. If you’ve wondered what it is, here’s the short story behind it.

While adding a few holiday touches before Thanksgiving, I remembered how much I enjoyed styling open shelving in our previous kitchen. Shelves are so much fun to decorate for the season. In our current kitchen we chose not to install wall shelves, which I missed, but I always knew a freestanding piece could give the same charm.

I kept an eye out for the right solution but hadn’t found anything that felt quite right—until a recent trip to Target with my mom.

You might recall this photo from years ago; I shared it on the blog and even featured it in my book Simple Gatherings. It shows a nesting table I repurposed on the counter as a dessert stand and later used in a bathroom. That repurposed table inspired me to look for something similar for this house.

Sadly, I think that particular table was lost in the move or left at our old house. I was a little bummed about it, but the idea stuck with me.

At Target I spotted a small log holder in the Magnolia Hearth & Hand section. I had seen it online and liked it, but this was the first time I saw it in person. It would be perfect by a fireplace or stacked with logs, of course, but I immediately imagined other uses—like a counter display similar to that old nesting table.

It might seem odd to use a log holder on a kitchen counter, but I thought: why not? It’s not a permanent piece, so I decided to enjoy it for the season. The log holder felt like a simple, cheerful way to add a little holiday display space.

I know I don’t always use items in the typical way, but that’s part of the fun. If repurposing this brings a bit of joy and a festive spot for coffee or hot chocolate supplies, I’m all in.

It’s easy to swap out the display later, but for now the little stand makes the counter feel special. Seeing this tiny corner of holiday cheer every day has been a simple pleasure.

That’s the kind of magic Christmas should bring.
