The Inspired Room - Getting Settled Into Our New Seattle Home

In case you imagined our new house was already perfectly styled for a before-and-after photo shoot because of blog magic, it’s not. I’ve been slowly getting settled and wanted to share some behind-the-scenes snapshots from my phone.

These rooms will come together in time. Right now we’re learning how the house fits our family and what belongs where. A home isn’t created by perfection; it becomes a sanctuary when you allow yourself to live in it. That’s exactly what we’re doing—embracing the process and enjoying the everyday moments.

I had to laugh when my little entertaining cabinet looked like this the other day.

A day or two later it looked very different. My 15-year-old son created his own little vignette in the corner of the living room. Style meets function—though I should probably add an outlet by his desk for his computer. On the other hand, this setup may encourage more family togetherness, so perhaps it’s exactly the right spot for now.

My daughter Courtney and I have hung only one piece so far—the mirror above the console. We don’t know whether it will stay in that spot long term, but placing a few things on the walls makes the rooms feel more lived in and helps us feel like progress is being made.

Pretty Sky in Seattle

We’ve been enjoying the view and even took a walk down to the beach near our house to get a closer look around the neighborhood. The changing sky here is beautiful and already feels like a daily gift that might spoil us for other places.

Jack and Lily at the Beach

Jack and Lily love exploring the new yard and going on little adventures around Seattle. A trip to Alki Beach was a highlight—both dogs had a blast running and sniffing around.

Seattle Ferry

We take the ferry to church sometimes, and the commute by water is hard to beat. It’s a peaceful, scenic start to the day and a simple pleasure we’re enjoying.

Back at home, while unpacking dishes and kitchen items into our cozy 1950s kitchen, I set up a flea market rattan shelf in the dining area to corral overflow. Sometimes items arrange themselves and end up feeling right exactly where they land. Seeing familiar pieces around the house quickly makes it feel more like home.

And of course, it’s officially home once the coffee station is in place.

Jack settled in quickly. He was a bit anxious at first but now seems completely at ease in the new house. If you need proof, this next photo says it all.

I’ll be sharing more updates as each room takes shape, along with the plans and inspiration behind them. For now, we’re enjoying the process of getting acquainted with this lovely old house.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few of these photos. If not, feel free to follow along to catch more glimpses of our progress.
