Please welcome my special guest and good blogging friend, Heather Bullard! She has the most beautiful blog and has just relaunched her online boutique. If you haven’t yet visited her, you won’t be disappointed.
Heather radiates a beautiful life from the inside out and her work is a constant source of inspiration. I know you’ll enjoy her post on The Inspired Room today.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to add character and charm to any room is to incorporate vintage accessories into everyday spaces. These pieces bring a warmth and individuality that modern mass-produced items often lack, giving a home a cozy, well-lived-in feeling.
In one of my bathrooms I placed a small painted table topped with a rattan suitcase that hides practical items. An antique vase and a collection of bottles add visual interest, while several pieces of ironstone serve as trays for soap and jewelry. Together they create a layered, collected look that feels personal and curated.
An old, weathered carpenter’s box works perfectly beside the tub, holding fresh washcloths and a few seashells gathered from the shore. A metal soap dish with an aged patina keeps handmade glycerin soap and a wooden nail brush neatly organized. Nearby, a small statue vase with rusted edges completes the vignette with texture and history.
Spending an afternoon wandering flea markets, thrift stores, and antique shops is one of my favorite ways to source pieces that are truly one-of-a-kind. Not only do these finds add personality to a room, but buying vintage is also kinder to your budget and to the environment. It’s a satisfying approach to decorating that rewards patience and a keen eye.
Mixing vintage accents with modern touches allows these treasures to shine without overwhelming a space. Use them sparingly as focal points—on a vanity, a shelf, or a side table—so each item can be appreciated. Grouping objects of different heights, textures, and finishes creates balance and visual interest while telling a story about the home and its owners.
Whether you prefer subtle hints of history or bolder antique statements, vintage accessories can transform ordinary rooms into spaces with warmth, depth, and personality. They encourage a slower, more thoughtful approach to decorating that values quality and story over trend.
Thank you, Heather! I love your accessories and the way they bring a home to life.
