Tour Time: Ultimate Guide to Planning Unforgettable Tours

UPDATE: This post isn’t kept current with the latest tour info. For our official, regularly updated tour page, please visit our book tour section.

The day has arrived: we can finally share the finalized tour dates for our book, straight from the publisher.

A few important things to note:

1. We wish we could visit everyone. If it were humanly possible we would travel to every corner of the globe to thank each reader in person. Tour logistics and scheduling make that impossible, so we’re deeply grateful to be visiting the cities on this itinerary—especially since the tour ended up being larger than originally planned.

2. If we’re not coming to your city, don’t be too disappointed. We have a big giveaway planned that includes flying one lucky winner and a friend to Richmond for the November 8 signing, along with meals and shopping. Photo courtesy of the Richmond Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.

3. More dates may be added. The tour could be extended depending on how things go. For example, our Austin stop was added after high pre-orders at BookPeople, so if your city isn’t listed yet, we’ll share any new dates as they’re confirmed. There’s even talk of an Atlanta-area visit in February.

4. About the blog while we’re on the road, we’ll be juggling travel and posts but plan to keep the blog lively. We’ve prepped extra projects to debut while touring and scheduled several house crash features. If you live in a city we’ll visit and have a great home to share, please email photos—there’s a chance we could feature your house. We’ll also be sharing travel snippets, window-shopping finds, and some goofy video footage from events and flights so you can come along virtually.

5. Clara and Burger’s travel plans vary by stop. They’ll join us for some legs of the tour and stay with grandparents for longer or more hectic stretches. They aren’t big fans of planes and disrupted routines, so we’ll do what’s best for them—even if it’s hard for us to be apart.

6. If you plan to attend an event, hosts and local shops appreciate it when attendees buy a copy at the event for signing. If you already pre-ordered a book and want it signed, we’re happy to do that, but purchasing at the event supports the venue that invited us. With the holidays approaching, consider gifting your pre-ordered copy, or keep it as a display while you read the event copy.

Fun fact: that photo features a dummy copy—our cover printed and wrapped around a blank book—since the actual books are still being printed in Indiana. We expect our first preview soon, which will make us squeal.

Update #1: Some readers worry that books won’t be available to purchase if an event is scheduled before the official release date. Rest assured there will be stacks of books for sale at every event, whether hosted by independent bookstores or partners like Flor and West Elm. Also: I should probably practice my signature since it changes every time.

Update #2: We don’t always choose cities—hosts invite us, and scheduling depends on who can accommodate the dates. City size isn’t the deciding factor. The tour may grow, so watch for new dates as they’re confirmed.
