“Our dwellings—both our home and body—are intricately connected.
Each has the potential to inspire the other to be its very best.
Our dwellings will impact our overall wellness and sense of well-being, each like a vessel that can be filled or depleted by our daily choices and habits.”
— from the brand new book Dwelling by New York Times Bestselling Author Melissa Michaels
Self-care has become a common topic, and for good reason.
Many people assume that true rest and renewal only come from leaving home for a retreat or a getaway. While time away can be restorative, I believe a broader approach serves us better: the daily practices of caring for our homes and our bodies are powerful forms of self-care.

Self-care doesn’t have to mean escape. Attending to the small rituals of home life—tidying, creating comforting corners, choosing nourishing food, cultivating gentle routines—can restore and sustain us. These actions are not minor chores; they are intentional ways to honor ourselves and the people we share life with.
When we slow down and become more mindful in our surroundings, we open space for resilience and calm. Caring for our home and body influences our mood, productivity, and relationships. Over time, these habits shape the tone of a household and can be passed on across generations.

That said, I still value occasional escapes. A weekend away or a quiet morning outside the usual routine can be refreshing and necessary. The point is balance: combine nourishing getaways with daily practices that make your everyday life feel restorative. Both approaches contribute to a deeper, more sustainable sense of well-being.
