The Pantry
I dream of having a pretty, well-organized pantry—especially in the fall. My new house includes a walk-in pantry just off the kitchen, but it’s basic wire shelving right now. I’ve been collecting inspiration photos and wanted to share some pantry ideas that I find both practical and beautiful.

I have the same baskets shown here, and they make everything look neater. With a few baskets and labels, even a simple pantry can look curated and tidy.

Open shelving can be wonderful if you like seeing pantry items and dishes on display. It feels honest and lived-in. If you prefer a cleaner look, install doors—but if you enjoy a casual, accessible kitchen, open shelves are a great choice.

A small pantry with glass doors becomes both a functional storage area and a decorative feature. Glass doors showcase what’s inside while keeping dust away, and they make the pantry feel like part of the room.

Pullout-style pantries are an efficient way to use narrow spaces. They keep items visible and accessible while maximizing storage capacity—especially useful for spices, canned goods, and baking supplies.

I always like to carve out a baking center in the kitchen. Even in small spaces, dedicating a shelf or cabinet to baking essentials—flour, sugar, mixing bowls, pans—makes baking easier and keeps everything organized.

Recently I removed the doors from my upper cabinets in the baking area to create open shelving. The change brightened the kitchen and made it feel larger without painting or remodeling. Open shelves encourage you to keep things tidy because everything is on display.
I don’t have a fully finished kitchen yet—there are details I still want to update—but simple changes like removing cabinet doors and arranging white dishes on the shelves have a big visual impact. Small, incremental updates can make a kitchen feel more personal and welcoming.

A freestanding cabinet or a repurposed furniture piece can provide flexible pantry storage when built-in space is limited. These units work well for storing dry goods, serving dishes, or small appliances and can be styled to match your kitchen.

Tips for creating a functional, attractive pantry:
- Use consistent containers and labels to create cohesion and make items easy to find.
- Group like items together—baking, snacks, canned goods—so everything has a dedicated place.
- Consider pullout shelves or lazy Susans for deep cabinets to keep items accessible.
- Open shelving showcases pretty dishes but requires regular tidying; glass doors offer a middle ground.
- Add baskets or bins for small items, wrappers, or kids’ snacks to reduce clutter.
