Hey friends! Are you excited to tackle projects in your home this year? I certainly am. I have so many ideas and I’m eager to start.
One project that’s been on our to‑do list since we moved in—over two years ago—was finishing the window coverings. I already installed woven shades in the living and dining rooms that I love. That was straightforward and we’ve been very happy with the result.
But I’ve been indecisive about what to put on the bedroom and lower level windows. The windows in this house are unique compared to any I’ve had before, and I wanted the right vision for each room as well as a cohesive feel for the whole house.

Inspiration – Liliane Hart Interiors
Because all the bedroom windows are on the same side of the house, they needed to read uniformly from the exterior. Practical concerns like privacy and light control were also important—this isn’t a house where we can go without window coverings—so I weighed all the functional and aesthetic factors.
Decisions like these are not my specialty, apparently.
While I pondered options, my son had to make do with a sheet over his window—yes, for two years. I know, it’s a little embarrassing. I could have used temporary shades, but I didn’t. If you must cover a front window with fabric temporarily, a flat white sheet reads more neutral than a fitted patterned one.
Fortunately, that temporary chapter is ending: I have ordered white plantation shutters.
I’m excited because shutters will give us excellent light control and privacy, and they’ll help the rooms feel cozier and more finished. They also create a unified architectural detail inside and out without feeling fussy, and they add the kind of character that fits the direction I want for this home.
I’ve used shutters in previous homes—both plantation and other styles—so this choice feels right. They complement the classic, slightly tailored look I’m going for and will help tie the house together.

I can’t wait for them to arrive and will share details once they’re installed. Making this decision has also sparked a new wave of ideas to keep the momentum going in other areas of the house.
If you’ve been stalled on a project, remember that creating a home is a personal journey—take the time you need to get it right. Once you make a choice and move forward, it’s so satisfying to see things come together.
