Seattle House Tour: Inside Our New Home (Video)

Hey friends! It’s been a whirlwind these last few weeks, but we’re so excited to share an initial look at our new (old) mid-century brick rambler. I never imagined we’d buy a ranch-style, one-level house with a basement—yet here we are. While my heart often leans toward cottages, farmhouses, or craftsman-style homes, this mid-century ranch charmed us in unexpected ways.

We’ve lived in a variety of homes, from 1920s and 1930s houses to a brand-new build. This time, though, the house felt like the right fit from the start. I have lots of ideas for both short-term updates and longer-term plans, including visions for each room and the exterior. To begin, I wanted to share a video tour for a sneak peek. If the video above doesn’t load for you, click here to watch the tour.

So what drew us to this house? Here are some of its best features:

Here are some of its best features:

Gorgeous natural light — The main floor and basement are bright and cheerful throughout the day, even on cloudy afternoons. Good natural light was a priority for us after enjoying large windows in our previous home. We intentionally looked for a property where trees would be within view but not so close that they blocked sunlight.

A sense of space — Although the house isn’t large, it feels airy and open. Expansive windows and wide sky views create a roomy atmosphere that still feels cozy. The separate living room, dining room and kitchen flow together nicely, and the finished basement provides extra space to relax and entertain.

A blank slate — The mid-century style is new for us, but the house offers plenty of potential to infuse our personal style through added character, curb appeal, design details, furnishings, and future kitchen and bathroom updates. It’s move-in ready and well-maintained, but there are immediate projects we can tackle to make it our own.

A solid house — Some homes just feel right, and this one does. It’s structurally sound, with updated plumbing and electrical systems and a finished basement. Best of all, there are no major poorly executed remodels to undo.

The view — We never expected to find a view, yet this house offers beautiful sunset and sky scenes, plus glimpses of the mountains, trees, and Puget Sound from the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Those daily views will be a gift.

The location — The house sits within five miles of the amenities we wanted to be near. It’s in an established neighborhood where many homeowners are updating their properties, which is encouraging for both livability and resale.

A quiet oasis — While Seattle is a lively city, this home feels like a retreat. Set on a larger, more private lot, it offers a peaceful escape from street noise. The backyard is private and framed by mature, well-kept shrubs and trees that create a serene, garden-like setting.
