When we bought our 1950s house last year, we loved many features, but there were also several things that needed updating. Finding a home that was perfect from the start wasn’t possible with our budget and timeline, but we recognized this house had good bones and potential. We committed to making gradual improvements to turn it into a place we truly enjoy.
Progress has come in small steps. Each week the house changes a little — rooms feel more cohesive and more like us. I’m excited to share more updates, including a fall house tour coming this Monday where you’ll see how the space is coming together.
One of our earliest projects was a simple, high-impact DIY: refreshing the fireplace. If you’re new here or you haven’t seen the original state of the room, the transformation was dramatic. A coat of paint proved to be an affordable, effective way to modernize the space and unite the room’s look.
On the Life Storage blog I’ve shared the before-and-after photos, a budget breakdown of our fireplace makeover, and three practical ways to refresh a room without spending a lot.
