Our family moved away from our hometown of Portland, Oregon, almost two years ago. It’s hard to believe how quickly time has passed. While we appreciate our new life in Washington, we often feel nostalgic for the familiar places and everyday rhythms we left behind. When I discovered the gorgeous gallery-wrapped canvas from Red Letter Words, I knew it would be perfect for our home.
Places like NW 23rd, Powell’s, Mount Hood, Haystack Rock and the West Hills are part of our family’s shared story. Hearing or seeing those names brings vivid memories of the life we lived for so many years.
I want our home to be surrounded by good memories. Subway art that features meaningful words and places is a simple, beautiful way to invite those positive thoughts into daily life. A thoughtfully chosen piece of word art can spark memories and feelings that a random picture simply won’t.
We placed our Portland canvas in the main hallway between the kitchen and the front entry. I wanted it at the end of the passage where we’d see it often. We walk through that hall several times a day, and each glance at the canvas brings a warm recollection—a place, a moment, a feeling. Seeing those words helps bridge the distance between our old life and our new one; those places remain a part of who we are.
Good times, good memories.
I love subway art that draws on the past—words that lift your spirit, offer encouragement, or recall meaningful moments. It’s the kind of decor that quietly shapes the mood of a home.

My daughter and I created a Polyvore set that will be featured on the Red Letter Words blog. We had so much fun putting it together!
While I was at The Relevant Conference I had the pleasure of meeting Dee from Red Letter Words. Her art feels meaningful and personal because it comes from someone with a lovely heart—her warmth shows through in her work.
Let’s discuss—I’m curious what YOUR happy words would be!
