Hello, friends! It’s been a while since I shared a Life Lately update. So much is happening around our home these days that it can be hard to keep up, but these posts are a lovely way to remember the little and big moments that make life feel full.
Today I’ll recap our recent trip to Portland, our stop at Anthropologie, a few decisions we’ve made for our remodel, and everyday moments around the house that have been bringing joy.

Courtney and I spent a weekend in Portland visiting her sister Kylee. We relaxed at her charming home, did a photoshoot for upcoming projects, and enjoyed some quality time together. With Courtney’s wedding coming up this summer, it was fun to plan and shop for celebrations as well.

We strolled through the farmers’ market and drove by several of our former homes. Visiting home always feels bittersweet—Portland will always hold so many memories for me, even though we now live in Washington. I think it’s possible to love two places for different reasons: one holds the heart of your past while the other is where you continue to grow. We’re grateful they’re close enough to visit often and that family is spread between both places.
Life rarely ties up everything neatly, but having two places to call home has been a gift. We visit, reminisce, and keep making new memories together.

While in Portland we made a stop at Anthropologie. It’s been a long time since I shopped in-store, and there’s something special about seeing pieces in person rather than online. I’ll share a few items that caught my eye and what I brought home.

I tend to shop online now, but being in the store was a treat. I came away with a favorite new dress I’d ordered earlier, anticipating summer events and the wedding festivities. It feels youthful and fun while still being comfortable for everyday wear. My daughters gave me their honest opinions—always helpful when questioning whether something feels “age appropriate”—and ultimately we agreed it was perfect for summer gatherings.

On our drive home we stopped at Trader Joe’s to pick up groceries with my college son, Luke. They always have lovely flowers, though Luke was focused on food—so we left with plenty to eat. He’s returned to in-person classes this year and is living with friends off campus. We’re proud of how he navigated college during challenging times and glad he’s close enough to visit.

Back in Seattle we checked flooring samples for the remodel. I’m excited for new floors with a casual, beachy vibe that can handle sandy feet and dogs. Replacing floors is a significant investment, but doing it alongside the kitchen remodel makes sense. We’ve been meeting with our contractor and designer to ensure the addition for my parents fits the home’s style and neighborhood while meeting their needs. I’ll share more detailed plans soon.

This summer we’re adding plants and window boxes to the porch. We ordered three planter boxes for the front railings—one was an accidental single order that turned into a happy surprise, so we now have three across the porch and side. I’ve always wanted window boxes, and I can’t wait to plant them.

There will be many updates as the remodel progresses. We’re coordinating with professionals to make sure the addition blends with the house and neighborhood and suits my parents’ needs. I’ll share those updates as plans are finalized.

The dogs are enjoying life—lots of naps punctuated by outdoor adventures. It’s a simple, happy routine that makes the house feel alive.

I love starting my mornings on the front porch with coffee in my Adirondack chairs. A few cozy touches like a runner and a lidded basket make it an inviting spot to pause and enjoy the day.
