Now that we’re wrapping up our outdoor projects, we’re thrilled with how much progress we’ve made. The main goal behind these updates has been to improve comfort and safety for our family and our dogs.
Good design is inspiring, but safety comes first. Since moving in, we’ve added new concrete, lighting, steps, railings and several other safety features around the property. We’ve also installed security technology to help protect our family and make our home feel more secure.

I enjoy integrating smart technology into our home—not only for convenience but because it boosts security as well.
We’ve added some useful security tools that give me real peace of mind. Today I’ll share a few of the new cameras we installed and how we use them.
We chose the HomeHawk™ by Panasonic KX-HN7000 Series of HD cameras (I’m giving one away today—enter the giveaway in the comments!). The kit includes a front door HD camera, a peripheral HD camera and a wireless access point base, providing coverage both inside and outside. It’s been a great addition and I’m excited to show how it works.
Don’t worry, mom, I won’t reveal any security secrets.

When my neighbor built her house she installed a lot of cameras (so if anyone is thinking of sneaking around, she’ll spot you and the police might already be on their way by the time you reach my door!). I admired that setup and decided to add cameras here too.
Our cameras aren’t just for catching burglars; they help us stay aware of what’s happening around the house. If we’re watching a movie and I want to check whether Lily is still outside, I can view the yard on my Echo Show instantly. The cameras also have two-way audio, so I can tell Jack to be quiet once I confirm there isn’t an intruder and he’s only barking at the neighbor’s dog.

If someone approaches my front door I don’t need to get up to see who it is. I can check from wherever I am without being seen. The system notifies me even if they don’t ring the bell.
I especially like being able to check for packages from my phone. You can set the system to play a voice alert indicating the site is monitored, which can deter package theft. It’s comforting to keep an eye on the front porch while I’m cooking, using the Alexa Echo on the counter. My kids can also monitor the house from their devices, and I love that they feel safe too.

Our home is getting smarter by the day.
The Panasonic HomeHawk system is simple to install—even for those who aren’t DIY enthusiasts. It’s fully wireless and uses long-life rechargeable batteries.
The system is flexible: you can expand up to 16 cameras total (the base kit plus 14 additional cameras). It pairs with your phone and integrates with Google Home and Amazon Alexa for convenient monitoring.
These cameras capture full-color footage day and night with a wide-angle lens. The app offers many customizable settings: choose the alerts you want, block out areas you don’t want monitored (for example, the street beyond your property or a large plant that triggers motion), and tailor detection zones to reduce false alarms.

You can record camera activity for later review, which is handy if you need to check what happened earlier. It’s also useful if you have teens and want to keep an eye on comings and goings—just saying. 😉
