and how we are using it to get organized.
Fall is on its way. We haven’t quite had to break out the rain boots full-time, but the season is changing and it’s the perfect time to prepare the yard and patio for wetter weather.
When rainy days return, patio cushions need a dry place to live. For years we simply tossed cushions, pillows, and outdoor rugs into our main shed for the off-season. This spring, though, my husband noticed our cushion collection had grown so much we either had to declutter or find a new storage solution.
We wanted something practical and tidy that would free up space in the main shed for garden tools and our new lawn mower. After considering several options, we decided to treat the backyard the same way we treat the interior of our home: use a dedicated, compact storage cabinet for specific items. In other words, add a small outdoor shed.

We had a few requirements. It had to be affordable—no reason to spend a fortune protecting cushions that aren’t expensive. It needed to be small enough not to dominate the yard, attractive enough to fit the look of our outdoor space, and simple to assemble in an afternoon by two people with basic DIY skills.

We aren’t expert builders, so the shed had to be straightforward to put together. My husband enjoyed assembling it as a weekend project, and the outcome gave us both the storage we needed and the satisfaction of a finished project.

We chose a compact shed that met all of our expectations: attractive, budget-friendly, and easy to assemble. It fits neatly into a corner of the yard while holding all of our white cushions and other seasonal items. With the cushions stored separately, our main shed now has space for tools and the mower, and our outdoor areas feel more organized.

Choosing a small outdoor shed is a practical way to keep patio cushions dry and extend their life. It also prevents clutter from building up in the main storage area and makes seasonal transitions easier. If you have limited yard space, look for compact models that tuck into corners or along fences.

When evaluating options, consider size, weather resistance, assembly requirements, and appearance. A small, well-placed shed can serve multiple purposes: store cushions, garden supplies, pool accessories, or seasonal decor. Choosing the right size ensures it’s useful without taking over your outdoor space.

Mission: Fall DIY and done—complete!
Our small outdoor storage shed has made fall prep easier and given us a neater, more organized yard. With cushions stored safely, we can enjoy our patio longer and protect outdoor fabrics from damp weather.
Think about where an extra storage solution could help you: a patio, side yard, or backyard corner can all benefit from a compact shed to keep cushions dry and supplies organized through the seasons.

Have a happy Thursday!
