Our White Slipcovered Couch Has Arrived — Styling Tips & First Impressions

Remember when I mentioned I ordered a new slipcovered couch? It arrived yesterday, and I’m excited to share a first look. I’ll follow up with more details and photos as I finish arranging the room.

If you notice a warm glow across the floor and rug in the photo above, that was caused by smoke drifting over Seattle from distant wildfires. The sun looked like an orange ball through the haze, which affected lighting for the photos that day.

The couch was just delivered, so the slipcover still has some packing wrinkles and I haven’t fully set the room up yet (hence the lamp sitting on a stool). Even so, I couldn’t wait to show it.

This is the couch I chose: the deep-seat slipcovered sofa with a bench cushion, 80 inches long, in Warm White Denim fabric.

When the delivery crew set it down in the living room, I immediately loved how simple and crisp it looks in the space. My dark velvet sofa moved back downstairs, so we’ll still be using it in another part of the house.

The slipcover fabric is the same washable material I had before, and it’s just as lovely—soft to the touch and a pretty contrast against the Benjamin Moore Simply White walls.

Comfort-wise, the couch is wonderful. The deep seat is ideal for curling up, yet it’s not so deep that sitting upright feels awkward. Even at 5’2″, I find it comfortable to sit with pillows behind me.

Now that the couch is here, I can’t wait to complete the room. Having the actual piece in place makes planning so much easier. I’m still deciding whether to bring my leather sofa into this room, but I know the design will revolve around a mix of favorites: whites, wood tones, leather, and lots of texture, with seasonal accents to evolve the look over time.

My daughter Courtney—who’s been my full-time assistant for several years—can’t wait to do some styling and tweaking this week. We’ll experiment with different arrangements to find the right balance, so expect more photos and angles soon.

PS. Get ready to pull out cozy layers: my annual Fall Nesting series starts soon. I’m excited—I’ve enjoyed the summer, but the smoky skies have limited outdoor time, so I’m especially ready to nest indoors.
