Our White Gate: Discover Its History, Architecture, and Tours

YYou may have seen this in my side patio makeover post, but we finally have a gate on our side patio — no longer gateless in Seattle. What started as a small project turned into one with plenty of hiccups and mishaps, yet we got there in the end.

The gate took far longer to complete than I expected—literally years in the making—but at some point I adopted a “better done than perfect” approach. I love the evolution of a space, but I also appreciate the satisfaction of a room that feels finished, even if it isn’t flawless.

Design for me is an ongoing pursuit, and I’ll likely tweak and improve this area over time because that’s part of the fun. Still, it’s wonderful to spend time in a space that already feels complete enough to relax in.

Right now we’re making the most of every moment out here.

This is the view into our side patio through the small gate window. Whether perfect or imperfect, a finished space feels peaceful and wonderful.

There are still improvements and projects I want to tackle in this area — I’ll share those in a future post — but for now you’ll find me out here sipping lemonade and enjoying the space all summer long.

If you missed the side yard updates, see the makeover here.

See our other white gate (a double picket!) HERE.
