A few months ago I shared the initial inspiration and ideas for our already great basement laundry and craft room. The room hasn’t changed much since then, except for one major improvement: we got a new washer and dryer. Yes, I’m excited about doing laundry.
Shortly after we moved in, our dryer stopped working and we went without one for the first few months. Not having a functioning dryer while settling into a new house was surprisingly disruptive. We lived with clothes and blankets draped over furniture and in piles on the floor, and we made do with semi-crunchy towels and clothes for several months. It was an inconvenient phase that made simple daily routines feel harder than they needed to be.
Just before Christmas we received a welcome surprise: Samsung sent us the redesigned platinum ActiveWash washer and dryer (model WA50k86ooAV-A2) as part of a partnership. It was the best gift for our household; having a working washer and dryer again changed everything.

We’ve never been so happy to do laundry. Being able to wash and dry clothes at home has turned a stressful chore into a smooth part of our routine. Two months in, our laundry is under control and these machines have been reliable and user-friendly.
With the immediate laundry crisis resolved, we’re excited again about designing the room. The space already has great potential, and we’re planning how to pull it all together with trim, tile, storage and thoughtful finishes. I previously shared our vision for a combined laundry and craft room and those ideas remain the foundation for future updates.

I found this inspiring laundry room recently that shows how a basic space can be transformed with molding, tile and fabric to become inviting and functional. I especially love the wall hutch that adds charm and useful storage.
We hope to add a dedicated laundry sink someday, but for now we appreciate that our new washer includes a built-in sink feature for hand washables and spot treatments. It’s a handy feature that we’ve used several times already.

In our previous homes we used front-load machines, and while those were fine, we really like the larger capacity of these new Samsung units. They handle bulky items like comforters with ease. The redesigned LED controls are easy to access and sit flat on the top panel, giving the machines a sleek, modern look.
We still plan to use this room for more than laundry; it’s intended to be a craft and utility space as well. If we move forward with a new mudroom and laundry setup upstairs, this lower-level room could serve as a secondary kitchen or guest laundry space. That flexibility makes the room even more valuable, whether we keep it for family use or host friends and visitors.
We’re grateful to have a bright, roomy space for laundry — the largest we’ve had so far. Previous laundry areas were often cramped basements with poor lighting, so having this well-lit, functional room feels like a major upgrade and a priority for future improvements.
Tell me about your laundry room — past or present — and what you’ve done or plan to do to make it a more inspiring and functional space. 🙂
