Fall and Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas

If you missed the Autumn Manifesto on Day 3, you can find it on the original post.

I enjoy decorating in a simple, natural way using items that are easy to find. Occasionally I try a crafty project, but most of the time I prefer decorations that are beautiful on their own or need just a small, thoughtful touch. The goal is decorations that feel effortless and warm.

Below are a few inspirational photos and practical tips for fall and Thanksgiving decorating.

1. K.I.S.S.

Keep it simple, sister. With so much to do during the season, simple decorating saves time and still looks lovely. A single pumpkin or a small grouping of gourds can be striking without any fuss. Nature provides most of the beauty you need—pile a few pumpkins on a bench, tuck some gourds on a shelf, and let their shapes and colors do the work.

2. Head outside!

If you have access to trees or shrubs, bring some outdoor elements inside. A few branches in a vase or jar add height and an organic feel to any room. Placing a couple of mini pumpkins or acorns in the vase first helps hold stems steady and gives the arrangement a finished look. Outdoor finds are free, fast, and perfect for seasonal decorating.

3. Add a little creative flair.

If you enjoy a small creative touch, try embellishing natural pieces instead of overhauling them. Wrapping a bit of wire around pumpkins or gourds, or converting small gourds into vases, keeps the look simple while adding personality. These kinds of projects are low-effort but make your display feel intentional and handmade.

4. Don’t forget to smile!

Some decorations are simply joyful. Small gourd vases and tiny arrangements can make you smile every time you see them. They feel personal and charming without being complicated, and they’re a great reminder that seasonal decor can be cheerful and relaxed.
