Ihave always been drawn to the color green. It isn’t only because spring is near or St. Patrick’s Day is approaching—I’ve loved green since I was a child. My mother let me help decorate my rooms growing up, and the first bedroom I truly remember designing on my own was painted a bright apple green and paired with navy fabric dotted in white. I was about thirteen at the time.

That room made me happy, and green still does. Even when green isn’t the trendiest choice, it brings a smile and a rush of memories from that childhood space. I remember the time I repainted two dining room chairs green; little touches like that reconnect me to what I’ve always loved.

Over the years I decorated other rooms in different hues—a soft blue as a teen, and later a room with white walls and gray trim—so green hasn’t always been my go-to. Still, that apple-green bedroom with navy-and-white polka dots remains unforgettable.

In a previous post I wrote about how everyone deserves a lovely home, but how we get there is up to us. After that post I received a comment from Jo at To a Pretty Life that really resonated. She shared how her passion for decorating began early and how many of the things she loved then she still appreciates today. She admitted she’d moved on from Donny Osmond posters on her bedroom door—thankfully they were only on the back of the door—but the core of what she loved remained.

Remembering what we loved in the past can be comforting and clarifying. It helps us understand why we make the design choices we do now and keeps us grounded in our personal taste even as styles change.

Do you ever think about your childhood bedrooms? Is there a room from a past home you still remember fondly? Have your tastes stayed the same or evolved into something different? Evolving can be positive, helping you refine your style, but sometimes we change so much we lose sight of what truly makes us feel at home. Do you ever feel that way?

Below are images showcasing several shades of spring green—colors that can brighten a room and stir pleasant memories.
