Job Chart for Kids {free and online!}
As a parent of three, I’ve watched my daughters grow into responsible young women, and now I’m navigating the pre-teen years with my son Luke. We wanted this summer to be fun and relaxed, but also a time for him to build responsibility at home. Finding a balance between freedom and structure became our goal.
Over the years we tried many chore systems, but nothing really held his interest. I didn’t want to turn into a nag, and he didn’t enjoy constant reminders. At the same time, I wanted him to have a productive routine instead of spending his days playing video games. Ideally, we wanted a system that would make chores clear, rewarding, and motivating—something that could also teach him the value of earning privileges.
Now that he is 12, it felt like the right time to put a plan in place. But what would actually work?
That’s when we discovered My Job Chart, a free online job and chore chart that makes it simple for kids to build good habits and learn about earning and saving. The timing was perfect. The system lets parents create daily tasks, set rewards, and track progress in a way that’s easy for kids to follow. Because my son responds well to tangible incentives, this setup seemed ideal to help him take ownership of his responsibilities.
My Job Chart allows you to mark some chores as mandatory and others as extra tasks that earn rewards. Chores aren’t limited to household tasks—activities like exercising, reading, or practicing an instrument can be included. The point is to encourage healthy daily habits and provide clear, achievable goals.

The reward system is flexible. Kids can earn money, but rewards don’t have to be financial. They can include choosing dinner, a special family outing, extra screen time, or other privileges that you set. Parents can customize rewards to reflect what motivates each child, which makes the system adaptable to different ages and personalities.
Another helpful feature is parental notifications: parents receive an email or text when a child completes tasks. You can respond and leave encouraging notes on the child’s online “post-it” to acknowledge their effort. That immediate positive reinforcement makes a big difference in staying consistent and keeping kids engaged.
We’ve set up our chart and are already seeing positive results. We plan to continue using it during the school year to encourage both household responsibility and academic habits.
I’m a fan of My Job Chart, and my son enjoys it too. It’s been a simple, effective way for us to teach responsibility while still making room for summer fun.
How do you motivate and inspire your kids to do chores and take responsibility?
I hope you’ll try My Job Chart and see if it helps your family the way it has helped ours.
While My Job Chart is a sponsor of The Inspired Room, my enthusiasm and support for the program come from my own experience as a mom focused on raising a responsible child.
