Monday Motivation: Designing Your Dream House and Garden

Dream House and Garden Traditional HomeTraditional HomeKindra Clineff

Yesterday our family spent a peaceful afternoon at a local garden nursery, Sky Nursery in Seattle. It was a calm, restorative time — wandering among plants, breathing in fresh air, and admiring all the color and texture. I love this season and the energy it brings. We returned home with a few vegetable and herb starts to begin a small kitchen garden. I’ve been missing our old backyard where we used to keep numerous containers of edible plants, vegetables, and fruit. I used to step outside and pick lettuce for dinner whenever I wanted. I’m excited to start planting my container gardens this week.

Once I got home with my little plants, I felt inspired to look for garden ideas for a future post. While scrolling through Pinterest, I came across this stunning dream home and garden (pictured above). It stopped me in my tracks — the exterior and landscaping are simply beautiful. I can imagine spending hours puttering in that yard.

Even though I miss the convenience of so many potted edibles in our old yard, I appreciate our new backyard even more. The established trees and mature plantings give the space instant character and shade, and they make it easier and more enjoyable to add my own personal touches. Layering in containers, herbs, and seasonal vegetables will be fun now that the foundation is already there.
