Kitchen Remodel Update: Where I Found the Faucet and Farmhouse Sink

The Inspired Room Kitchen Farmhouse Sink - Better Homes and GardensMy last kitchen in BHG

Happy Friday! The last glimpse I shared of the kitchen showed the new arches. Since then I mentioned the surprise feature — a round window that was supposed to be installed already. Of course, no project at my house is without at least one hiccup.

In this case, the window went missing in transit. Believe it or not, it turned up later in Portland. I didn’t ask too many questions; I was just relieved that it’s finally been located and is scheduled for installation today. Will it actually be installed? We’ll see.

There isn’t anything new to show yet inside the kitchen — no visible finishes or decor. But behind the scenes, plenty of progress has happened: design decisions are finalized, materials and fixtures have been ordered, paint colors chosen, drawings completed, and several potential problems have been solved.

If the round window is installed today, I expect that by next week the drywall will be finished and crews can begin installing the ceiling, flooring, cabinets, countertops and backsplash — and, of course, the dutch door we’ve planned.

Although nothing pretty is in place inside the room yet, there are boxes of beautiful items sitting on the floor. One of the final decisions I made was choosing the faucet and farmhouse sink for the new kitchen, and today I’ll share those choices.

Picking a faucet took longer than I anticipated. Besides the backsplash, it was one of the more difficult decisions. I wanted a farmhouse sink, but I weighed many faucet styles and finishes: modern or traditional, brass, nickel or chrome, and whether to choose a bridge-style faucet or a single-handle model.

I ended up ordering several faucets to evaluate them in person. Many were lovely options, but the one that best matched my overall vision and coordinated with other kitchen elements was a vintage-brass Heritage-style faucet. It had the right weight, proportion and old-world character, and it included a separate sprayer — a feature we prefer. It was also far less expensive than my runner-up, which felt like a bonus.

I love the antique brass finish and the substantial feel of the faucet. I’m excited to see it installed with our farmhouse sink.

Our new faucet is very similar to the one that was in my old house

We chose an undermount farmhouse (apron-front) sink similar to the one we had in our previous home, but this time we ordered a larger model. The layout in this house allows for a bigger sink and cabinet, so we took advantage of the extra space. The larger sink will feel generous in the small white kitchen and should work beautifully with the faucet we selected.

Faucet sources I considered (examples across styles and finishes)

Many of these models come in several finishes — check product options when choosing a finish.

Above you can see some of my favorite faucets. Several were ordered to view in person and others I considered online. I also explored a selection of faucets in a shopping widget during the planning process.

For the farmhouse sink, we chose the exact Kohler model pictured below. I’ve written before about apron-front sinks and shared additional sources and inspiration for anyone considering that classic look.
