Join in our Fall Nesting Party

It is finally time for the third annual fall nesting party! Welcome. I can hardly believe I’ve been blogging long enough to host a third year of this event. I feel so grateful to connect with many like-minded friends who enjoy the simple pleasures of autumn. Let’s celebrate fall together—hip hip hooray!

On Monday I spent the day puttering around the house doing what I love most: nesting. Nesting is the process of turning a house into a home. No matter where you live — house or apartment, rented or owned, temporary or permanent — nesting is something everyone can do right where they are.

Fall nesting is my favorite yearly ritual. I do feel a small sadness when I put away summer items — I love the light, fresh feel of summer decor — but settling in for fall suits me best. I’m a homebody, and the slower pace of autumn appeals to that side of me. If you haven’t started your own fall nesting yet, try making just a few simple changes around the house. You don’t need to do it all at once.

One of the first things I do is light my cinnamon spice candles and create a little homemade potpourri. Fall should smell inviting — warm and cozy. Store-bought potpourri can sometimes feel dated, so I like to refresh the look and scent to better reflect my style.

I found a bag of fall potpourri on sale and liked the scent, but it didn’t quite match my look. So I mixed it with scented pinecones and a little green moss. For a playful contrast I even added white seashells and a few small starfish. I love unexpected combinations — the contrast of seaside pieces with autumn textures felt fresh and interesting.

There will be plenty more fall posts as I continue to nest and decorate around the house. I’m making things cozier and have new ideas to share.

And speaking of fall, I’m preparing a month-long series of autumn and holiday posts to help us embrace the season and find beauty in the everyday. I can’t wait to share it — it should be fun!
