One of my favorite decorating habits is collecting inspiration from many places and paying attention to what elements consistently speak to me. Looking broadly helps you identify the styles, colors, textures, and forms you prefer. Once you recognize those elements, it becomes easier to shop with purpose, spot good deals, and combine pieces into a room that feels intentional and welcoming.
I often browse Serena & Lily for ideas — their aesthetic consistently feels fresh and livable. While I haven’t visited a store in person, their photos online spark a lot of inspiration. Some of my favorite statement pieces from them include my rattan daybed, a cane bed, and a rattan mirror, all of which helped shape how I layer natural materials and relaxed silhouettes in my home.
Their design philosophy resonates with me:
“At Serena & Lily, we combine our love of breezy California style with our passion for great design. Our look is casual and coastal, relaxed yet refined. Our designs blend classic influences with modern lines; eclectic inspiration with great American style. We love spaces that feel put together, yet livable – well-traveled with a personal point of view. We believe home should be a welcome oasis – your favorite place to retreat, to gather, to live well every day.”
That balance of relaxed and refined is exactly what I aim for at home. I noticed they’re running a 20% off sale, so I wandered their site and saved a few images that stood out. I’m sharing the ones that sparked ideas for my own rooms.
The opening image reminded me that brass wall sconces would be a lovely addition to my guest room. I have a pair from my previous house that would work perfectly. Sconces are especially practical in smaller bedrooms because they free up nightstand space while adding layered lighting and a decorative touch.

This deep green entry wallpaper caught my eye. It can read moody and cozy for autumn and winter, yet it also pairs beautifully with lighter accents for spring and summer. I love wallpapers that can shift mood with accessories.

Seeing the green wallpaper at the end of a white hallway felt so striking — a small, unexpected pop of color that makes the space feel intentional.

A cozy bedroom fireplace has always been a dream of mine. I’ve even thought about relocating our bedroom to a lower level to accommodate a larger suite with a brick fireplace — there’s something so comforting about that glow and texture in a sleeping space.

I loved the color of this bedroom door. I’m considering painting our gray Dutch front door before it gets cold; a fresh blue like this would be a cheerful update that still feels classic.

This dining room felt familiar to me — the white table and woven chairs echo my own dining area. I even have a similar mirror above our bench. Recently I added candle wall sconces on either side of our mirror and they’ve made the space feel cozier; I’ll share that update soon.

An oval dining table with a striped banquette also reminded me of my table. Ours has been in the family for years and, though it’s a bit rickety now, we appreciate the history it brings to meals and gatherings.

If you’ve followed The Inspired Room for a while, you may remember my red toile chair. Seeing this blue toile chair made me nostalgic — toile always adds a sense of pattern and story that I miss from time to time.

I’m drawn to furniture with turned wood details, like this bed. Those classic shapes add warmth and a handcrafted feel that complements simpler, more modern pieces.

This rattan shelf reminded me of a flea market bookcase I found years ago. I’ve used it in different rooms — office, living room, dining room — and it’s currently holding linens in the guest room closet. Versatile pieces like that are the best finds.

This small dining nook is charming—bistro chairs and a cheerful mix of pillow patterns make it feel collected and cozy. Small corners like this show how thoughtful seating and textiles can transform everyday spaces.
