Inspired by Serena & Lily: Coastal Home Decor Ideas

One of my favorite decorating approaches is to gather inspiration from many places and notice which elements consistently catch your eye. Hunting for ideas across different sources helps you identify the features you truly love. Once you understand your style—or at least recognize the elements you prefer—you’ll find it easier to spot pieces at stores, identify great deals, and assemble a home that feels cohesive and personal.

Serena & Lily is one brand that always sparks ideas for me. I haven’t visited a store in person, but browsing their online images is endlessly inspiring. Some of my favorite statement pieces are from them, including a rattan daybed, a cane bed, and a rattan mirror I’ve used in various rooms.

Here’s how the brand describes their design philosophy:

“At Serena & Lily, we combine our love of breezy California style with our passion for great design. Our look is casual and coastal, relaxed yet refined. Our designs blend classic influences with modern lines; eclectic inspiration with great American style. We love spaces that feel put together, yet livable – well-traveled with a personal point of view. We believe home should be a welcome oasis – your favorite place to retreat, to gather, to live well every day.”

That description really resonates with me.

I noticed they were running a 20% off sale and spent some time browsing their site. Below are a few images and details that stood out and inspired ideas for my own home.

The image at the top of this post reminded me I’ve been thinking about adding brass wall sconces to my guest room. I have a few from my previous house that would fit perfectly. Sconces can be especially practical in smaller bedrooms since they free up space on nightstands while adding elegant lighting.

This deep green entry wallpaper stopped my scroll. It has a moody, cozy quality for fall and winter, yet can feel fresh and lively when paired with lighter accents in spring and summer.

I love how the green wallpaper reads at the end of a white hallway in this bedroom—it’s a beautiful way to create contrast and visual interest without overpowering the space.

A cozy fireplace in a master bedroom has always been a dream of mine. I’ve even thought about relocating our bedroom to the lower level to create a larger suite with a brick fireplace—there’s something so inviting about that focal point.

The color of this bedroom door inspired me. I’ve been considering painting our gray Dutch front door before winter arrives. A fresh blue like this would be a cheerful change and give the entry more personality.

This dining room felt familiar—white table, woven chairs, and a bench topped with a mirror—elements that echo my own dining space. I recently added candle wall sconces beside our mirror and love the warmth they bring.

Dining Chairs

An oval dining table and a striped banquette here also reminded me of my own setup. Our oval white table has been with us for years and may be a little rickety now, but we cherish the stories and history it carries.

If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you might remember my red toile chair. This blue toile chair brought back fond memories and reminded me how much I enjoy toile patterns—classic and charming.

I’ve always been drawn to furniture with turned wood details like this bed. Those turned legs and posts add a timeless, handcrafted feel that can make a piece feel special.

This shelf reminded me of a rattan bookshelf I found at a flea market years ago. I’ve moved that piece between my office, living room, and dining room, and it now stores linens in my guest room closet. Great finds like that are so versatile.

This small dining nook is delightful. I love bistro chairs and the way different pillow patterns are mixed here—it’s a small space that feels thoughtfully layered and inviting.
