One of my favorite decorating tips is to collect inspiration from many places and note the elements that truly appeal to you. Exploring a variety of sources sharpens your sense of personal style. When you begin to recognize the features you love—whether that’s a color palette, a shape, or a texture—you’ll more easily spot pieces that work together when shopping, find better deals, and assemble a room that feels intentional and welcoming.
Serena & Lily is one shop that consistently sparks ideas for me. Even though I haven’t visited a physical store, browsing their images online always gives me fresh inspiration. Some standout pieces I’ve brought into my home are a rattan daybed, a cane bed, and a rattan mirror—each one adds character and a relaxed, elegant vibe.
Here’s how Serena & Lily describe their aesthetic:
“At Serena & Lily, we combine our love of breezy California style with our passion for great design. Our look is casual and coastal, relaxed yet refined. Our designs blend classic influences with modern lines; eclectic inspiration with great American style. We love spaces that feel put together, yet livable – well-traveled with a personal point of view. We believe home should be a welcome oasis – your favorite place to retreat, to gather, to live well every day.”
That description really resonates with me.
They were running a 20% off sale when I visited the site, so I saved a few photos that caught my eye. I’m sharing them here along with the small design ideas they inspired.
The opening photo reminded me I’ve been considering brass wall sconces for my guest room. I have a couple from my previous home that would be perfect. Wall sconces are a smart choice in a smaller bedroom because they free up surface space on nightstands while adding layered lighting and visual interest.

A dark green entry wallpaper stopped me mid-scroll. It reads moody and dramatic in fall and winter, yet pairs beautifully with lighter accents for a fresh spring look. The right wallpaper can transform a small space like an entry or hallway into a memorable moment in the home.

I love how the green wallpaper looks at the end of a long white hallway—it creates a focal point while keeping the overall feel bright and cohesive.

A cozy fireplace in the master bedroom has always been a dream of mine. I’ve even thought about relocating our bedroom to the lower level to create space for a larger suite with a brick fireplace—it’s one of those design luxuries that instantly makes a room feel warm and lived-in.

The color on this bedroom door caught my attention. I’ve been debating repainting our gray Dutch front door before winter arrives. A fresh, saturated blue like this could be a simple change with a big impact.

This dining room felt familiar—white table, woven chairs, and a mirror above the bench. I have a similar arrangement and recently added candle wall sconces on either side of our mirror. Small updates like that can bring balance and warmth to a dining wall.

An oval dining table and a striped banquette in another image reminded me of our own dining setup. Our white oval table has been in use for years and, despite being a bit wobbly, it carries a lot of history and memories. Durable and well-loved furniture often tells the best stories.

I used to have a red toile chair on this blog years ago—this blue toile version made me nostalgic and reminded me how much I miss toile’s classic charm.

Furniture with turned wood details, like the bed shown here, always feels timeless and charming to me. Those subtle crafted touches add personality and depth to a room.

A rattan shelf in another photo reminded me of a flea market rattan bookshelf I found years ago. I’ve moved it from room to room—office, living room, dining area and currently it holds linens in an open guest room closet. Pieces like that are versatile and keep giving over time.

This small dining nook is charming—the bistro chairs and the mix of pillow patterns make it feel cozy and personal. Small, well-styled nooks can make everyday moments feel more special.
