Animal Christmas Ornaments
felt ornaments via Terrain, bottle brush animals and owl via West Elm
It’s no secret in our house: we love funny animals. It’s been that way forever. I used to read Frog & Toad Are Friends to my kids and we’d laugh until we could hardly breathe.

We even have a funny animal gallery wall in the kids’ bathroom.
We crack up at animal movies like Babe.
We have a funny animal in the family.

We text pictures of funny animals. All. Day. Long.
It never gets old. Yes, we’re a little weird—but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
On a recent trip to Michaels, searching for a dream theme for our Christmas tree, we discovered the perfect idea for our family.
We’d been noticing delicate woodland animals in several of our favorite stores.
While browsing at Michaels we found charming bottle-brush and pinecone ornaments—tiny woodland creatures that felt sweet and authentic rather than kitschy.
The little animals immediately stole our hearts and made us smile.

We decided to build a warm, woodland home for those ornaments, tucking them into our tree alongside golden pinecones, glittery garland and rustic burlap ribbon.
We had planned to show a handmade ornament project last weekend, but a mishap delayed things. My daughter’s usually reliable ten-year-old Honda broke down on the side of the road in Seattle, and in the scramble to tow the car she accidentally left our craft supplies in the trunk. We later learned the transmission had failed, which meant an awful week and no crafts to photograph—yet.
We’ll share our Woodland Tree reveal on Wednesday, and we’re hoping to have handmade ornament tutorials to show you the following weekend.
Stay tuned later today for a special “3 Looks” inspiration board post and a coupon code for Red Letter Words!
Happy Monday before Thanksgiving, everyone!
Are you the one making the turkey this year?
The Dream Christmas Tree Challenge gift card for ornaments and the tree was provided by Michaels. You’ll be able to see other participants’ trees this week as well; a link will be shared in our reveal post.
