Hurricane Centerpieces with Hanging Votives for Holiday Tables

Thanksgiving, Party & Holiday Table Idea!

While attending the Relevant conference, I kept noticing the charming table decor. From what I observed, the decorations were created in part by Events by Design, whose designer I met there. The table arrangements were full of thoughtful, creative details.

This clever hanging votive idea was created by Melissa Reagan, a product designer for Blessings Unlimited. I absolutely love it.

One simple detail that stood out was the use of hanging votive candles hooked to the rims of glass hurricanes. I didn’t get many photos of the full table settings, but the suspended votives created a delightful, twinkling effect that felt festive and intimate.

I usually place candles inside hurricanes, but hanging them with a small wire hanger gives the display a fresh twist. At home I experimented with some stiff wire, which was a bit tricky to shape, but the concept is easy: twist a short length of wire into a small hook or hanger for a votive cup, then hook it over the hurricane’s rim.

This quick project takes only a few minutes. It’s a great last-minute enhancement when you want a polished look without much effort.

The floating votives add a playful, elegant element. On the conference dinner tables, they created sparkle and warmth that made the space feel cozy and special. This look works well for buffet or dining tables, side tables, or any surface where you want soft accent lighting.

Fill the hurricane bases with whatever matches your theme—pebbles, seasonal foliage, cranberries, or even small ornaments. I used pebbles because they were handy, and they held the votives steady while allowing the hanging candles to shine.

These Thanks & Giving-style hurricanes come in sets and make an attractive base for the idea. The hanging votives are versatile and can be adapted to many styles, from rustic to refined, depending on your materials and candle choices.

Easy and effective—perfect for holiday dinners or casual gatherings.
