Thanksgiving, Party & Holiday Table Idea!
While attending Relevant, I noticed so many lovely table decorations. I believe some of the styling was done by Events by Design, a talented team I met there. One idea in particular stood out to me and I later discovered it came from Melissa Reagan, a product designer for Blessings Unlimited—such a clever touch.
The idea is simple: hang small votive candles from the rim of a glass hurricane. Instead of placing the candle inside the hurricane as usual, you create a tiny wire hanger for the votive and hook it over the glass edge. The result is delicate, suspended light that adds an unexpected, festive sparkle to any table.
I tried this at home right away. Using thin craft wire makes the job easiest: twist a short length into a small loop to hold the votive and form a hook to hang on the hurricane rim. If your wire is stiffer, it takes a bit more effort, but the technique is still straightforward. This quick project can be completed in just a few minutes and creates a polished centerpiece without much fuss.
Hanging votives add a playful, elegant twist to standard hurricane arrangements. In the dining room at Relevant, the suspended candles made tables look warm, sparkly, and inviting. This approach works well on buffet tables, dining tables, or sofa tables—anywhere you want to add ambient lighting and charm.
For the base of the hurricanes you can use whatever you have on hand: pebbles, sand, small pinecones, or seasonal greenery all look lovely. The combination of a weighted base and hanging votives keeps the look balanced while allowing the candles to glow freely.
If you’re sourcing hurricanes, look for simple glass styles that provide a clean edge for hanging the votives. The Thanks & Giving hurricanes are one example of a classic shape that pairs well with this idea. Paired with a few additional touches—candles, chocolates, or comfortable seating—you can create a welcoming gathering space for guests.
This is an easy, inexpensive project that yields a big visual payoff. It’s perfect for Thanksgiving, holiday parties, or any occasion when you want a pretty, memorable table without a lot of effort. Easy peasy idea, huh?
