How to Make a Crooked Pot Planter: DIY Guide and Tips

Guest post by Claudia of Dipity Road

BEFORE: Simple terracotta pots and a steel pole

Start by digging a small hole where you want the pole to stand. Set the first terracotta pot in the ground so it sits steady, then drive the steel pole into the earth through the center hole of the pot until it’s secure.

Stack additional pots on the pole, fitting each one over the previous so they form a vertical column. Once the pots are in place, fill them with potting soil to create planting pockets at each level.

AFTER: A striking display of color and lush greenery

With a variety of vibrant annuals, trailing vines, and small perennials, the stacked pots transform into a living tower. Choose a mix of textures and heights—bright blooms for impact, trailing plants to soften the edges, and compact foliage to fill gaps. Water thoroughly after planting and consider a slow-release fertilizer to keep the display healthy over the season.

This simple, budget-friendly DIY turns ordinary terracotta pots into an eye-catching garden feature that works well on patios, in borders, or as a focal point in a small yard.
