About fifteen years ago I discovered a simple habit that quietly transformed my home and my life. It wasn’t complicated or flashy—just a steady, sustainable practice that made a big difference over time.

I’d tried every complicated system I could find for maintaining a house and I kept failing. When homemaking feels like failure, it’s tempting to give up and say you don’t care how the house looks. We have important responsibilities and priorities that deserve our attention, and I understand that completely. That realization led me to change my approach.
I needed to get control of my home so I could enjoy life more fully and focus on what mattered. Bringing order to daily chaos allowed me to become the person I wanted to be—more present, less overwhelmed, and freer to spend time on meaningful things.

Now I laugh at myself for how difficult housekeeping felt before I learned this: a pretty, comfortable, and clean-enough home comes from simple daily habits practiced consistently. It’s not about perfection or grand overhauls; it’s about small, repeated actions that add up.
Daily clutter doesn’t vanish after one big decluttering binge. Consistent, manageable habits are what keep a home functioning. In my book I share practical tips for daily routines, decluttering, and organizing to help you create a home you love to live in.
Starting a simple morning routine set the tone for my days and helped me keep the rest of the house under control. Small habits—like clearing surfaces, doing a quick tidy before bed, and handling mail and dishes promptly—prevent the slow creep of clutter and make a home feel maintained rather than neglected.
My daily routines changed my perspective. Practicing them consistently continues to empower me to live the life I truly want—one that balances responsibility with joy, order with warmth.
I’ve written about creating daily routines and the way they shaped my home journey in my book Love The Home You Have, a New York Times Bestseller. If you’re looking for gentle encouragement and practical, realistic steps to bring more calm and order to your home, that book offers guidance and ideas to help you start.
