Who else has started decorating for fall? Have you put out pumpkins, hung a wreath, switched to plaid table linens, or brought out cozy pillow covers? I’m curious what everyone is doing to welcome the season.

This weekend I’m planning a little more fall nesting. I’m especially excited to work on the porch — my new doormat, which I ordered last month, should arrive soon. I chose a Homebody doormat from my recent doormat roundup and can’t wait to see how it looks at the entry.

I’ve even spotted pumpkins at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods already. I might pick up a few this weekend if I feel inspired. I usually wait until October for pumpkins, but the weather has turned gray and stormy in between sunny breaks — September in the Northwest is typically beautiful, so the gloom has me feeling ready for autumn sooner than usual. What about you?

I hope you enjoy the inspiration featured in this week’s Home Style Saturdays. Below are some favorite ideas and sources to spark your fall decorating plans.

Whether you’re adding a wreath to the door, bringing out warm textiles, or arranging pumpkins on the porch, small touches make a big difference. Layer blankets and throw pillows in rich, autumnal colors, mix textures like wool and linen, and add natural elements—like gourds, branches, and dried grasses—to create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

For the entryway, consider a seasonal doormat, a simple wreath, and a few pumpkins or lanterns to set the tone. In the dining area, printed place cards, menus, and napkin rings can elevate a casual meal into a special gathering. In living spaces, swapping lighter summer pieces for heavier fabrics and warm hues instantly changes the mood.

Don’t be afraid to repurpose items you already own: a copper tray becomes a stylish base for candles and small pumpkins, and a stack of books can create height for an autumn vignette. If you’re short on storage or space, choose one focal area to decorate—an entry table, a mantel, or a porch step—and keep the rest minimal for impact.

Enjoy the process of transitioning your home. Fall decorating is about comfort, warmth, and simple pleasures: soft lighting, seasonal scents, and gatherings with friends and family. Take your time, have fun with textures and colors, and let your home reflect the cozy spirit of the season.
