Home for the Holidays Blog Tour with Balsam Hill

Hey friends! Happy Monday after Thanksgiving! That special day means you can officially start adding Christmas trees to every room and no one will bat an eye. I put up several trees just before Thanksgiving this year. I haven’t fully decorated the whole house, but the trees made everything feel warm and festive for our family gathering.

Right before our guests arrived we set up a beautiful Balsam Hill European Fir in the living room. We still love our tradition of cutting a real tree from a tree farm each year, but it’s been lovely to add realistic artificial trees we can enjoy for many seasons. One of the best things about high-quality artificial trees is that you can put them up early and enjoy them longer—without needles and sap on the floor.

I adore how natural this tree looks: the shape and the lighter tones on the undersides of the branches mimic a freshly cut forest tree. It brings an effortless elegance to the room.

My decorating style tends to be simple and uncluttered, but I love scattering small trees throughout the house. Often they’re pretty with just white lights, and sometimes I leave them undecorated for a calm, natural look.

In the kitchen I kept things streamlined. We prepared a Thanksgiving dinner for twelve here—our first Thanksgiving in this remodeled kitchen—and the small trees made food prep and family time extra cozy. If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen some of our festivities in my stories.

I thought it would be fun to hang Chunky Knit stockings on the hooks in our guest room for visitors this Christmas. They’re cozy and perfect for a small, casual gift. A few years ago we started a gift exchange tradition where we draw names and categories, then shop together for a set time before meeting for dinner and exchanging gifts. This year I plan to ask guests to place their items in stockings so we don’t need extra wrapping supplies.

We’ll be using our Forest and Sea ornaments again this year, and I’m also loving the French Country ornament set. They shine like mercury glass and offer a lovely mix of shapes and textures that add sparkle to the tree without overwhelming the room.
