Can you believe the holiday season is already here? I don’t feel quite ready yet—my house certainly isn’t—but there’s still time to prepare. To get into the giving spirit, I’ve included a giveaway below.
Who is hosting Thanksgiving this year (for my U.S. readers) or who already hosted Thanksgiving (for my Canadian friends)? I’m hosting this year and have started planning the menu. I’m currently following a gluten-free diet after a longtime health issue led to a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s—I’m feeling great and will share more about that journey soon.

In addition to gluten-free dishes, my daughter Kylee and her husband Lance have been vegan for years, and several relatives are often vegetarian or dairy-free. This year’s holiday meal will likely be one of our most unique—and hopefully delicious—yet. I’ve been collecting ideas on my gluten-free dairy-free Pinterest board. I’m open to suggestions!
We like to offer fresh twists on traditional dishes while keeping food simple. Our priority is the people gathered around the table, not stressing over complicated meal prep.
Embracing simplicity in our home and in how we celebrate the holidays has made all the difference for me as a hostess.

Since my kids were small, I’ve loved hosting Thanksgiving and bringing family together in our home. Our old dining table isn’t large enough for everyone, so we add a card table and extend the surface into the living room. A simple tablecloth turns it into one big, happy table. It’s not fancy, but it highlights what matters most: memories, good food, and time with the people we love.
Isn’t that the point of creating a home? To open the door wide and welcome people into a warm and comfortable space. No apologies, no pressure to impress—just a home where caring for people comes first.
Do you enjoy hosting? Whether you’re the hostess with the mostess or more hesitant about entertaining, my book Simple Gatherings offers encouragement, tips, and inspiration to help you host with ease and creativity all year long.
