Unique Christmas Tree Ideas
I enjoy dressing up small trees with unexpected decorations. I don’t spend hours on them, but it’s fun to try something different each season. Last year I used silver spoons on my dining room tree, which was an easy and charming way to make a statement.
This year, inspired by family pieces, we added some of my grandmother’s jewelry to a tree. I didn’t carefully sort through every box—sometimes lazy decorating leads to the best improvisations—so the ornaments include a mix of true heirlooms and a few costume pieces from everyday stores. The contrast gives the tree personality and a slightly eclectic, vintage-meets-modern feel.

Photographing tiny jewelry on branches can be tricky, so some details are more subtle in the pictures than they are in person. To capture the look, I took a few close-ups and included some of the little treasures tucked among the branches—a brass whistle and a few small keepsakes that add texture and surprise.

Small trees invite creativity because they can carry bold or delicate themes without overwhelming a room. Using jewelry and tiny heirlooms creates a personal touch: brooches pinned to branches catch light like vintage ornaments, necklaces can be draped as miniature garlands, and rings or charms look lovely clustered on a low-hanging limb. Mixing metals, textures, and unexpected items keeps the display lively.

Below are a few tips if you want to try this look:
- Choose a small tree so the jewelry doesn’t get lost and each piece can be appreciated.
- Pin brooches or lightweight pieces securely so they sit flat on branches.
- Use chain necklaces as tiny garlands or to hang pendants as focal points.
- Mix inexpensive costume pieces with meaningful heirlooms to add variety without worry.
- Add small non-jewelry items—buttons, charms, tiny toys, or vintage finds—for texture and whimsy.
For contrast, I also decorated a larger tree with some of my favorite ornaments this year. Combining a big, traditional tree with a few smaller, themed trees around the house creates balance and more opportunities to experiment.
Thanks for stopping by to see my trees! I love looking at other holiday displays and always enjoy swapping ideas about simple, creative ways to decorate.
