Hardwood floor inspiration via Design Sponge (Exquisite Surfaces)

Are you dreaming of new flooring? Flooring shapes the look and feel of a home and influences decorating choices and future renovation plans. Whether you’re living with existing floors for a while or beginning with a blank slate, selecting the right flooring is a major design decision.
Sometimes you get the rare and exciting chance to choose flooring from scratch. This year I had that opportunity and replaced old stained carpet and damaged floors during a remodel.

Kitchen painting and new floors under the paper
I’m so happy to have had new Hickory hardwood floors installed by Mohawk. The transformation has been remarkable—new floors change how the house feels and how I plan to decorate each room. After years of waiting to renovate, it’s thrilling to finally see progress.
My final kitchen, family room, and entry hardwood floor reveal posts will be coming later this month. Right now the kitchen and family room are covered in protective paper and tape while the painter finishes the work, so I’ve been told to stay out to avoid ruining the fresh paint. No full reveals just yet!
Meanwhile, here are some hardwood floor inspiration pictures. Inspiration images are invaluable when making decisions about new flooring. They help you narrow down style, color, pattern, and finish choices.
When I plan a remodel, I start by collecting images from magazines and online sources to define the look I want. Once I have a visual direction, I consider the details that will achieve that style in my own home.
Design decisions aren’t the only factor. Consider your family’s lifestyle, budget, and how new flooring will relate to existing trim, cabinetry, or adjacent floors. These practical considerations help narrow options and guide the final choice.
Professional guidance is valuable both when choosing materials and during installation. A knowledgeable retailer or installer can advise on wear performance, maintenance, and transitions between rooms to ensure a polished result.
While choosing new flooring can feel overwhelming, it can also be an enjoyable and rewarding process. When the work is finished, the right floors can completely refresh your home.
Even if hardwood isn’t in your immediate plans, looking at inspirational photos is part of the fun.
No matter the aesthetic you want—modern, traditional, rustic, or transitional—there’s a hardwood floor that can achieve it. I’m thrilled to have partnered with Mohawk on this project.
Do you have new flooring projects in your future?
On another note, I recently visited a stunning home used for a Ballard Designs catalog shoot and will share photos and behind-the-scenes glimpses soon. I also have more kitchen updates and holiday inspiration coming—busy times!

I’m participating in the Mohawk “Floors Me, as Told by Bloggers” program and received hardwood flooring for this project; as always, all opinions and experiences are my own.
