Hi friends! Michaela here with my monthly entertaining ideas. It’s mid-November and Thanksgiving is almost here. I’m sharing a simple, elegant tablescape idea for Thanksgiving dinner plus an easy DIY place-card project that adds a personal touch to your table.
Materials: mini canvases (available at craft stores), black marker, gold paint, paintbrush.
Step 1: Write guests’ names on the mini canvases with the black marker and allow them to dry.
Step 2: Lightly stroke gold paint across the canvas with a dry brush technique to add a subtle metallic highlight over the lettering.

I propped these canvas place cards against ivory pumpkins. Ivory and white pumpkins feel classic and versatile — they take you cleanly from fall décor into Thanksgiving without looking like Halloween leftovers.
For the tablescape I layered a gold runner down the center of the table, clustered candlestick holders in mixed metallic finishes, placed fall-colored candles and grouped larger pumpkins as the centerpiece after spray-painting a few in metallic gold and silver. Natural-looking placemats, simple china, a wine glass paired with a gold-rimmed goblet (I even added a striped orange straw for a playful touch), gold flatware, and a folded cloth napkin complete the setting.

Details: Most items shown were gathered from around the home or found at common retailers — a gold runner, natural placemats, gold flatware, mercury-glass candlestick holders, and seasonal pumpkins make this look approachable. Mixing gold and silver adds a contemporary, festive shimmer; feel free to combine metallics for a layered, polished effect.
Because many of the elements are repurposed or readily available, this tablescape proves that an elegant holiday table can be achieved without buying everything new. The DIY canvas place cards are quick to make and add a handcrafted, thoughtful detail your guests will appreciate.
If you’d like a closer look, I’ve shared a short video tour of the table on my design blog. Wishing you a relaxed and beautiful Thanksgiving season — happy decorating!
