I promise I’ll clean the glass when the remodel is all done.
A little earlier this summer I took a fun trip to HomeGoods with a few gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. It turned out to be my lucky day: among other finds, I brought home this charming little cabinet.
I bought it without a plan, not sure where it would go or what would go in it. I was living on the edge! Once I got it inside, I realized bringing in furniture while my house was mid-remodel was a bit impulsive. The kitchen and floors were being redone and the house was a mess. With limited space to stash things, the cabinet ended up tucked into a corner, empty and unused for a while.
When the kitchen remodel really kicked off, I desperately needed places to store everyday dishes. That little cabinet proved useful after all. We filled it with bowls, mugs, and plates—no styling required. During a remodel, practicality wins over perfection, and this cabinet made it easy to keep essentials close at hand.
As I always say, simple white dishes look lovely on open shelves or behind glass, even when they aren’t perfectly arranged. White dinnerware has a timeless appeal that suits casual or styled displays. I wish I’d cleaned the glass before photographing it, but the remodel has left everything a little dusty and grimy. When the work is finished I’ll clean up, but for now the lived-in look feels authentic.
Seeing the dishes inside made me fall in love with the cabinet all over again. It’s surprising how small things can brighten a room. Now that the end of the remodel is in sight, I’m reluctant to empty the cabinet, so I’m considering keeping it out for extra dishes or using it to display my collection of white pitchers.
I don’t have a permanent spot for it in the kitchen, though—wouldn’t it be adorable there?—so I’m planning to move it to the dining room this week to see how it looks with those white pitchers. I’ll share where it ends up once it’s settled.
Do you have a little cabinet in your house where you store extra dishes?
