Welcome! I’m excited to share the progress in our lower-level family room and introduce our beautiful new Mohawk flooring. If you missed the before photos, there was a previous post detailing the installation. The new floor has transformed the space, and we’re thrilled with how the room is coming together.

The flooring was installed the week before Christmas during a very busy time at our house. Despite the chaos, the installation was quick and efficient—the main transformation happened in a single day. Because these floors are pre-finished, no sanding, staining, or sealing was needed after installation, which made the process even faster and less disruptive.

Updating floors is one of the most impactful improvements you can make in a room, second only to paint. We’ve used Mohawk pre-finished flooring before and loved it, so choosing them again felt like a natural decision. The new floor completely refreshed the room and created a cleaner, more cohesive backdrop for everything else.

Before the update, the room had dull wall color, dated blinds, and old carpet. Fresh paint and new flooring instantly elevated the space. The Concertina laminate in Smokey Chestnut offers a natural, rustic texture with a matte finish and warm tone. It reads traditional but still feels current, which suits our home perfectly.

The new flooring makes this area feel like a new addition to the house because we’re naturally drawn here now. The warmth and texture create a welcoming, cozy atmosphere that’s comfortable and durable—ideal for everyday family life.

Along with painting and the new floors, we added a cozy sofa from Interior Define; I’ll share more about that in a future post. The wood Persian rug has been in our family for years, and most of the other furnishings are pieces we already owned. We still have a few finishing touches to add, but the room already feels welcoming and complete.

We had family visiting shortly after the installation, so the floors were quickly put to the test. They handled furniture moves, muddy dog paws, and everyday family activities without issue. Durability was a top priority for us, and these floors have proven up to the task.

The wall behind the chairs is a newly built partition; the other side now serves as our office. I’ll share the before and after of that wall in an upcoming post so you can see how it changed the flow of the lower level.

One more look at the before-and-after:

In addition to the new wall, we painted the walls and fireplace in Simply White by Benjamin Moore, added trim around the fireplace to bridge gaps between the brick and drywall, removed the pink blinds, and installed the Mohawk flooring. The result is a much fresher, brighter space that feels more intentional and livable.

We still plan a few more updates over time, but we’re very happy with the progress and how much the room has improved in recent months.
