My husband and I fell in love with this house on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. It feels like one of those grand, old family homes you imagine being passed down through generations. Of course, it would be even better if that imagined inheritance also covered all the maintenance, yard work, and upkeep — but a little daydreaming never hurt anyone.

Photographing the house was tricky because a privacy hedge and mature trees shield most of it from view. I kept wanting to sneak past the barriers to capture more, but I resisted — you can probably imagine how stunning it is behind those plantings.

I kept wondering what the room with the gorgeous, oversized window looks like inside. The roofline is impressive too — lots of character and architectural detail that add so much charm.

This is the street in front of the house. Drive-by photos are often challenging; with a home like this you can’t always capture its spirit from the curb. To properly showcase it you’d practically have to hop the shrubs — not exactly a subtle approach.

The trees are so large they conceal the entire right side of the house, making it feel tucked away and private.

The front entry appears to be really special, but it was impossible to photograph without invading the privacy of the property. Perhaps that’s intentional — some parts of a home are meant to be discovered in person.
