Hello! I’m Michaela from Michaela Noelle Designs, and I’m excited to share an easy, stylish idea for entertaining: mini plant place cards that double as favors. These small touches add charm to any table for a party, shower, family dinner, or holiday gathering. Below is a simple step-by-step guide to make these yourself.
Materials you’ll need:
Mini terra cotta pots, small potted plants, paint, paint brush, place cards, pen, tape or glue, and wooden sticks or thick toothpicks.

Step 1: Paint the pots. You can paint a full pattern or just the rim for a subtle look. In my setup I used a soft blush pink on the rims to keep the look simple and fresh.

Step 2: Prepare the name cards. Choose pretty place cards and write each guest’s name. Attach each card to a wooden stick or a thick toothpick with tape or glue so it can stand in the soil.

Step 3: Pot the mini plants. Fill each painted pot with soil and pot your small plant. Insert the name card into the soil so it sits upright and is easy for guests to see.

Step 4: Set the table. Use a few key pieces to create a welcoming tablescape: flowers, patterned plates, colorful goblets, napkins, comfortable pillows for seating, and the food. For a casual afternoon gathering I served fresh berries, homemade bread, and jam—simple, pretty, and delicious.

These mini potted place cards make thoughtful favors. Let guests know they’re welcome to take their plant home—that little living memento is a sweet way to end an event.
If you’d like a similar look, consider sourcing pieces like melamine or patterned plates, metallic flatware, neutral napkins, and affordable goblets or vintage finds. Terra cotta pots and small kalanchoe or similar low-maintenance plants are widely available at craft stores and nurseries.
Hopefully this idea inspires your next gathering—simple DIY details like these make entertaining feel personal and memorable.
