Simple DIY Burlap Flower Pot - The Inspired Room

I believe entertaining should feel relaxed, not stressful. When you’re hustling to clean and plan the food, elaborate table decorations often get pushed aside. For those last-minute occasions when you still want a charming, memorable table arrangement, this simple burlap-wrapped potted plant idea comes together in minutes and looks intentionally put-together.

Instead of a bouquet, I often use small potted plants from the grocery store or a local nursery as centerpieces for the dining or buffet table. They’re affordable, long-lasting, and can be planted outdoors after the gathering, making them both decorative and practical.

To hide plain plastic nursery pots, keep a roll of burlap fabric on hand. It instantly gives an inexpensive pot a finished, rustic look without buying fancy containers. No one needs to know how simple the trick is.

Cut a strip of burlap to size, wrap it around the pot, and tuck the ends in. That’s it. For extra polish or security, tie a ribbon or twine around the finished pot. On a longer table, group three pots together on a low tray to create more visual interest and dimension.

These little potted plants also make thoughtful housewarming, hostess, or just-because gifts. Add a bow and you’re ready to brighten someone’s day.

If hosting still makes you nervous, try these five tips for a stress-free gathering:

1) Do What You Enjoy.

You get to design the event, so plan a gathering that you will enjoy from start to finish. Keep things as simple or as elaborate as you like. If baking from scratch stresses you out, pick up dessert ready-made. If you’re great with food but unsure about tablescapes, choose a few reliable, simple decorating ideas to reuse.

2) Cut Yourself Some Slack!

Make a plan but stay flexible. Parties rarely go exactly as scheduled, so roll with small mishaps, laugh them off, and focus on enjoying the time with your guests.

3) Don’t Worry, Be Happy.

If you worry about imperfections, remember guests are usually grateful to be invited and often won’t notice the small things you stress over. Write down what concerns you most and address those items first so you can relax and enjoy the rest.

4) Be A Gracious Hostess.

The goal of gathering is connection. Being genuinely warm and welcoming is more memorable than a perfect table or flawless meal. Kindness and hospitality are what guests remember.

5) Tag-Team It.

Share the planning and hosting duties with a friend or family member. Dividing tasks reduces stress and often makes the event more fun for everyone involved.
