Hi friends! I’m Michaela, and I’m excited to share a simple, charming DIY for February: a heart-shaped floral arrangement perfect for Valentine’s Day. I adore flowers, so this is one of my favorite seasonal projects to make for a centerpiece, a gift, or a sweet decoration around the house.
This heart-shaped arrangement is easy, quick, and fun to do alone or with friends. Make it a few days before Valentine’s Day so the blooms stay fresh. It’s a great activity for a small craft party and works whether you’re celebrating with someone special or treating yourself.

You’ll need:
– Flowers: I used carnations and spray roses. Carnations open up full and fluffy, and some varieties resemble baby peonies when they’re the right color.
– A heart-shaped kraft box (I found mine at Hobby Lobby).
– Floral foam (it can be slightly smaller than the box).
– Scissors.
– Foil.
– Knife.
– A bowl of water with floral preservative.

Step 1: Line the inside of the kraft heart box with foil so water from the floral foam won’t soak through the cardboard.

Step 2: Trim the floral foam to fit the heart box. A helpful method is to press a piece into the lid, turn it over, and cut away any excess so the foam matches the shape closely.

Step 3: Soak the foam in a bowl of water mixed with plant food. Let it absorb the water fully—about 10 minutes works well.

Step 4: The fun part—arranging the flowers. Cut each bloom leaving about an inch of stem and insert it into the floral foam.

Work your way around the heart, placing sturdier stems first—carnations are ideal since they’re easy to push into the foam. Spray roses have thinner stems, so insert them gently and support the stem at the base while pushing. To give carnations a peony-like look, you can carefully peel back some inner petals; pick carnations with scrunched central petals for the best effect.

Use smaller blooms or filler flowers to tuck into any gaps and achieve an even, full surface. Once finished, the heart looks lovely on a coffee table, propped on a shelf, or attached with ribbon to hang on a door—choose the display that suits your space.

I love how this arrangement brings a whimsical, fragrant touch to the home for Valentine’s Day.
Give it a try and enjoy the process—Happy February!
xoxo
