It’s time to show off the July {ditto} DIY challenge!
Happy Monday! It’s time for the ditto DIY challenge. Once a month, ten bloggers recreate a project or design element inspired by haute couture and translate it into approachable home decor. The goal is to inspire you to bring elegant design touches into your own home in a way that reflects your personal style. You can join in by making a project and linking it up to the ditto DIY party.
The ten hosting bloggers include:
Darlene @ Fieldstone Hill Design
Ruth @ Living Well Spending Less
Cindy @ Skip to My Lou

This month’s theme is Framed Fabric, and this was our inspiration photograph:

The {ditto} DIY Challenge:
Frame some fabric! Use any fabric in any way, then create a lovely display.
So, what did I do for my project? Until the last weekend I had no plan. I had a month to create something, but I don’t have many bare walls left in my house and I tend to avoid projects I don’t actually need. At the last minute I decided to make a wipeable memo board / welcome sign for the front porch using an inexpensive placemat from Target and a frame. I didn’t use fabric for this one because I didn’t have the exact look I wanted on hand.
I considered a placemat that closely resembled the inspiration photo, but worried that writing on the surface wouldn’t be legible. Instead I chose a simple striped rubber/plastic placemat that reads well behind glass.
I recommend basic scissors and a steady hand for this quick project. No special skills required.

Instructions: Trim the placemat slightly so it fits the frame, then insert it and replace the glass. The glass becomes a writable surface—use a chalk pen or dry-erase marker to leave messages, names, or a welcome note.
Done. Total time: 5 minutes or less.
Can you handle it?

Now the fun part: link up your own framed fabric projects and join the ditto DIY party. Browse the linked projects to gather ideas and see how others interpreted the challenge. For next month’s theme and design tips on incorporating framed fabric accents into your home, check Darlene’s post about the upcoming challenge and suggestions.
This simple design DIY challenge will turn ordinary items into charming decor. Design is all about the details.
