Decorate Your Home with Pieces That Speak to You

Decorate with what you love

For more than a year I considered adding cafe curtains to my windows. I finally went for it—and I wonder why I waited. It wasn’t a major project: just a pressure rod and a cafe curtain, plus a few curtain rings. It was easy to install and just as easy to remove if I change my mind.

I’m glad I followed that little nudge. I love the look, though I also liked the window before. That’s what made me hesitate: it wasn’t a must-do, just something my heart kept suggesting. Because the curtain set was affordable and reversible, it felt like a low-risk way to try something new. Now that I enjoy it, I’m even thinking about installing similar curtains in the dining room.

Why not? Decorating should be fun.

Our homes should reflect the things we love. I shared with my HomeBody Gathering Place community recently that when it comes to our living spaces, it’s worthwhile to listen to those small impulses. You don’t need to overhaul everything on a whim, but there’s often a reason you’re drawn to certain styles or pieces. It’s helpful to explore that pull and, when possible, try lower-risk ways to follow it.

If a choice carries little downside, what do you really lose by trying it? Consider the worst-case scenario: if you can live with that outcome, the experiment may be worth it. If not, seek a similar option that inspires you without the same commitment.

Some decisions deserve a cautious approach; others are perfectly fine to treat playfully. A balanced approach lets you protect bigger investments while still allowing room for smaller, joyful changes.

A home should tell your story. Let your preferences and instincts have a voice, so you can decorate with the things you truly love.
