Welcome — I’m so glad you’ve stopped by for coffee, even if it’s just virtually. A few weeks ago my daughter Courtney was visiting and I made us vanilla bourbon coffees. They tasted like something you might be served after dinner at a nice restaurant, but we enjoyed them first thing in the morning. The best part: you don’t have to buy bourbon. It’s simple to make, and I’ll share how in a moment.

These days I brew almost all my coffee at home. It saves money and, to me, tastes better than most shop-bought drinks. I order whole beans and grind them fresh every day (or every couple of days), then brew in a stovetop espresso maker. Once brewed, I enjoy my coffee black sometimes, but usually I add something to make it creamier — a little foamed oat milk does the trick. I don’t use dairy or almond milk, but use whatever milk you prefer. I’ve been meaning to try making homemade oat milk and will share my experience when I do.
If you like a creamier drink, a handheld steamer or frother makes it easy to get a silky texture. For a special treat, I rarely go beyond oat milk, but every once in a while it’s fun to jazz up the coffee with a simple flavor addition. It makes your morning feel like a cozy moment at a café or a relaxed evening after dinner.

If you want to experiment, try turning your regular brew into a Vanilla Bourbon Latte. It’s easy: add a splash of vanilla bourbon extract to your coffee, then top with foamed oat milk. A little honey can be added if you prefer it sweeter. The extract gives the coffee a warm, cozy flavor without any alcohol, and only a small amount is needed to transform the drink.
Ready?
This is what I add to make my coffee into a Vanilla Bourbon Latte.
I use only a splash and adjust to taste. If you like a sweeter cup, stir in a teaspoon of honey or your favorite sweetener. The result is a comforting, slightly indulgent coffee that feels special but is quick and simple to make.

This kind of coffee is perfect for a relaxed morning while you read a new blog post or settle into the slower rhythms of the season. When I first started blogging, morning coffee and reading blogs went hand in hand — a simple pleasure that still feels lovely today. If you’re following along with a seasonal series, like a fall nesting series, this drink is a sweet companion to a cozy moment at home.
Happy nesting!
