Cozy Small Space Ideas to Make Every Corner Charming

The Inspired Room Kitchen and Family Room
I have always been drawn to the small, charming corners of a home. Older houses often include delightful nooks, quirky stairwells, and tiny pockets of space that add character and warmth. I miss that kind of architectural personality. Our house follows a fairly standard layout, so most rooms are straightforward rectangles. Still, we do have a little tucked-away spot near the half wall and pillars that separate the kitchen from the family room (and a similar transition between the dining room and front room).

At first glance, this corner seems insignificant—almost like a place you would leave empty because the room isn’t large. Yet those modest spaces are perfect for adding a touch of personality and function. A thoughtfully placed piece can make the corner feel cozy and intentional rather than cluttered. I prefer to avoid filling every corner; instead I like to highlight one or two areas with a simple plant, a small table, or a single chair to create an inviting pause in the room.

Do you have a small, overlooked corner that could use a little more charm or character? It’s rewarding to keep an eye out for the right piece that can transform even the smallest part of a home.

I picked up this table years ago (I believe it was from Lamps Plus) and it remains a favorite. I appreciate furniture that has visual interest, because it’s enjoyable to notice as you pass by. This one is especially appealing from the side, so I’m glad it’s positioned where it can be seen.

PS. It’s nice to be back after a few days away. I had an intense week finishing several exciting projects (I’m looking forward to sharing something fun with you soon), and then my husband and I spent the weekend in Portland for a conference.
