Hi! It’s Courtney. I’m excited to share my apartment bedroom with you today. As I mentioned in my empty apartment tour yesterday, this is my first apartment that has a completely separate bedroom. My previous place had an open one-bedroom layout with a partial cutout wall, which offered some separation but not the same privacy. Having full walls and a door has been a game-changer — it feels wonderful to have a distinct, cozy sleeping space.
My whole apartment is only 500 square feet, so I knew the bedroom would be compact. I embraced a simple, cozy approach and focused on furniture that wouldn’t overwhelm the room. The goal was comfortable, uncluttered, and visually light.

I have an ivory iron bed I could have used, but I didn’t want a footboard in such a small room. Even though the iron bed’s footboard was airy, it still felt like a barrier in a compact space. That pushed me to look for a bed without a footboard to keep the room feeling open.
Finding a bed that fit my budget and taste turned out to be surprisingly time-consuming. I ordered fabric samples and debated many options. At one point I had a wingback bed in my cart but hesitated at the last minute because it was a final sale and a bigger investment than I was ready to commit to.
As my move date approached I found a simple upholstered platform bed on sale that reminded me of a higher-end option I liked. It became my “look for less” choice and fit the room well.

I had several fabric choices for the bed. With light gray walls and carpet, I wanted a bed that was lighter but not the exact same shade. I chose an off-white textured fabric called “Zuma White” without ordering a sample, and it turned out to be a great match — not stark white, just a soft, warm off-white that adds light without feeling clinical.

The bed was well-made and fairly straightforward to assemble, which was a relief during the move.

I also wanted a mattress that could be shipped easily and was made with healthier materials. After researching options, I chose a mattress that met stricter chemical emissions standards and came highly recommended. I selected a mattress and down-alternative pillows that arrived compressed in a box and expanded quickly once unpacked. Both the mattress and pillows have been comfortable and supportive, and overall I’m really pleased with their quality.

The mattress was easy to set up by myself — I unboxed it and watched it expand. The result is a comfortable sleep setup that feels fresh and supportive.

For extra storage and display, I added a shallow wall shelf. I bought it without a specific plan but knew it would be versatile. It found a perfect home next to the bed, holding small items and a few of my everyday essentials like essential oil rollers, which I keep in a compact holder.

My bedding is a linen duvet with pompom trim in a light gray and optical white linen sheets. The linen offers a relaxed, cozy look and feel that suits the small bedroom perfectly.

The nightstands are hand-me-downs from my mom. One is a simple tray table that keeps the room airy; I may swap it later for something with more storage, but I appreciate the warmth and lightness it brings now. The mirror above the bed was also part of older decor that I repurposed — I love giving pieces a new life in a different setting.

Small accents include a compact white alarm clock I’ve had for years and a mint green lamp that adds a cheerful touch. I also enjoy picking up fresh flowers from a local florist nearby — it’s a lovely perk of living in a walkable neighborhood.

The room is still a work in progress since I only moved in recently, but it already feels restful and calm. I look forward to winding down here each night and adding small touches as the space evolves.
